Sold with an early tinted photograph of the recipient in civilian attire, set within a decorative gilt frame, the whole contained within an ornate gilt glass-fronted frame.

Private John Davis, Company F, 17th Indiana Mounted Infantry, was born in Carroll, Kentucky and entered the Union Army in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for capturing the flag of the Worrill Greys at Culloden, Georgia in April 1865. His Medal was issued on 17.6.1865.
