Lot Essay

Silver Medal 14.3.1832 'On 6 March 1832, when the Sloop Vine struck the bar at Elie Harbour, Fife and was wrecked, Lieutenant Randall and five men, McCulloch among them, put off in a Gig and saved the Master and two seamen'.

Silver Medal 21.5.1834 'On 2 Feburary 1833, when the Schooner Wanderer was wrecked at Elie, Fife, in a violent storm, Lieutenant Randall and Mr. McCulloch put off in the Coast Guard Gig with two other men and, at the third attempt, rescued the Master and six men. They were landed under a salute of three cheers from several hundred spectators on the beach'.

Kenneth McCulloch was the Chief Boatman of the Coast Guard at Elie, Fife.
