Major Hugh Maurice Bellamy, D.S.O., O.B.E., M.C., who was born in 1887, was a Commercial Engineer from Grantham and a pre-War Territorial Force Officer in the 1/4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Mobilised in August 1914, he first entered the European Theatre of War in March 1915, gaining advancement to Captain in July of the same year. Subsequently awarded the D.S.O. and M.C., and thrice Mentioned in Despatches, he joined Syren Force in North Russia as a Deputy Assistant Quarter-Master General in March 1918, a post he occupied until November of the following year. These latter services resulted in him being awarded the O.B.E., his fourth 'Mention' and the Second Class of the Russian Order of St. Anne (P.R.O. WO 374/5632 refers). Having reverted to the Territorial Force in the rank of Major in March 1920, Bellamy appears to have travelled to Africa, where he died shortly afterwards - his MIC entry states 'deceased'.
