M.C. London Gazette 26.9.1916 'For conspicuous gallantry during operations. With two men he reconnoitred close up to the enemy's lines and brought back valuable information. He has continually volunteered for dangerous patrols'.
Captain Kenneth Anns, M.C., is mentioned in the Regimental History as having carried out the above reconnaissance at Ovillers, his 'valuable information' assisting the 7th Battalion, East Surrey Regiment in an attack which was launched on 12.8.1916. He had originally entered the French Theatre of War as a Corporal in the Surrey Yeomanry in January 1915, and was commissioned in May of the same year.
