AN ITALIAN LATER BLUE DECORATED AND SCARLET JAPANNED BUREAU CABINET, 18TH CENTURY AND LATER
The exterior with later blue decoration with panels of flowers and foliate scroll work, the interior with black and scarlet japanned decoration, the upper part with a moulded arched double dome cornice fitted with a central arched, mirrored cupboard flanked by secret compartments with simulated marble tapering foliate pilasters and adjustable serpentine shaped folio open compartments with two drawers and recessed apsidal doors with gilt chinoiserie figures enclosed by a pair of mirrored, arched panel doors, the reverse painted with chinoiserie figures and birds between rounded angles, the lower part with sloping panelled fall enclosing a renewed fitted interior with similar chinoiserie gilt figures on a scarlet ground with similar sliding and adjustable compartments with drawers and pilaster secret compartments containing three serpentine twin panelled long drawers between rounded angles on bun feet
