Carved in wood and possibly cork, the urn with goats head masks suspending floral swags, with fruit and foliage above, the imbricated base with a grasshopper to one side, mounted within a gilt engine milled border under a convex glass, the ebonised frame later
The relief -- 3in. (7.6cm.) wide, the frame -- 5in. (12.7cm.) wide

Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo (born Asti 1745, died Turin 1820)
From a family of wood carvers and ornamentalists in Asti. He is recorded as having supplied numerous furniture and carvings for Royal palaces. In 1787 he was appointed wood carver for Victor Amadeus III and in 1793 was admitted ad honorem to the Accademia Clementina in Bologna. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris in 1808. He also produced small bas relief portraits in light wood or ivory.
