This collection was largely formed during the 1930's and 1940's by Percy Dalton of The Hall, Burley-in-Wharfedale. Mr. Dalton profited greatly from selling a breakfast cereal called Dalton Flakes during the Second World War. He exhibited four pieces at the Thomas Chippendale exhibition at Temple Newsam House, 1951, nos. 53-56, including lots ....., the fourth piece exhibited was a silver table, then catalogued as 'probably by Chippendale', which was subsequently sold, Hollis and Webb house sale, 14 March 1956, lot 63 when Mr. Dalton moved back to Harrogate.
