Lot Essay

This table was described by Thomas Chippendale as a 'Breakfast Table' in his influential work The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, London, 1754, and is similar to his design (pl. XXXIII). Another example is in the Victoria & Albert Museum (W.64-1950) (see: D. FitzGerald, Georgian Furniture, London, 1969, no. 80)
