A STAFFORDSHIRE SALTGLAZE ADMIRAL LORD VERNON COMMEMORATIVE MUG AND COVER, the cylindrical body with slightly spreading foot moulded in relief with the Royal Arms of England beneath the initials G R above a winged cherub's head, the reverse with a standing figure of Admiral Vernon and a townscape with battle-ships in the foreground, inscribed above PORTO BELLO TAKEN BY AD. VERNON, the rim with an incised border and with a band of stylised foliage below, the strap handle with incised decoration and pincered terminal, the cover moulded with exotic birds among foliage and with Bacchus head finial (the mug cracked and riveted in two places and stained, chip to rim), circa 1740 25cm. high
