Lot Essay

Whilst the engraving would appear to be by a Dutch hand, the origin of the goblet is more complex since it bears many hallmarks of Zechlin glass. However, its weight and clarity of metal suggest that it belongs to a facet-cut group originating in Holland from circa 1760 and of which the decoration of a number of examples are attributed to the workshop of S.J. Sang
