Lot Essay

Tsvetistye tortsy is a book about which very little has been written. This must be attributed to its rarity. Markov, for example, does not include the book in his very carefully compiled bibliography of books of this period.

It is a hectographic book of substantial length and may indeed be the longest produced by Kruchenykh using this printing medium. It is printed on a great variety of fagile papers ranging from cheap buff lined to rather fine cream wove paper. Many of the pages are typewriten suggesting that only a few examples could have been produced. The text is interspered with fine playful designs by both Vladimir Burliuk and Kirill Zadanevich which are amongst the most charming produced by 41° artist. It is interesting to note that many of the woodcuts by Zdanevich should be used a year later in Rekord niezhnosti

The presnet copy of this rare book is the example which Kruchenykh inscribed to Tat'iana Vechorka to whom the volume of poetry is dedicated
