The goddess Gula (whose name means 'great') was a goddess of healing and a patroness of doctors. Her sacred animal was the dog and small model dogs were dedicated to her by worshippers; her principle shrine was at E-gal-mah at Isin, but she also had temples at Nippur, Borsippa and Assur
