The attractive white, brown and orange polished stone of rhomboid form, pierced longitudinally for suspension, one face inscribed with three lines of cuneiform text reading "To Ninurta Kurigalzu gave (this)"

Lot Essay

Ninurta was an important Babylonian god, the god of war. It was customary for Babylonian kings to offer jewellery to statues of deities, some items with dedicatory inscriptions. Kurigalzu is the name of two Kings of the Kassite dynasty; this inscription may refer to the second who reigned from circa 1332-1308 B.C.
