A ROMAN ARCHAISTIC ROSSO ANTICO HEAD OF ARTEMIS
2nd Century A.D.

Wearing a diadem which is pierced for attachment of additional ornamentation, the hair dressed in characteristic Archaic style with incised wavy lines on the crown of the head and worn in curling locks caught under the diadem in front, falling in a rigid mass at the nape of the neck, the face with inlaid eyes and later high polish, repaired with some facial restoration, on a later draped marble bust and socled mount
Head 7in. (17.8cm.) high; head and bust on mount 21¾in. (55.2cm.) high overall
