The attribution has been confirmed by Professor Giuliano Briganti (letter of 11 May 1987) and Professor Luigi Salerno (letter of 22 February 1988), both of whom identify the present picture as an early work. Briganti compares it with a group of pictures published by Salerno (Il dissenso nella pittura.
