Lot Essay

From the engraving and the measurements given by Smith
(12 x 18in./13 x 18in.) and Hofstede de Groot (12½ x 19in.). it seems clear that the present picture has been cut on the left side, removing the corner of a cottage and presumably the monogram recorded by Hofstede de Groot 'on the left at foot'
