THE AKRA TAPEINOSIS (CHRIST 'MAN OF SORROWS')

CRETAN, BEGINNING OF THE 16TH CENTURY

The naked, half-length figure of Christ is depicted standing within a marble sarcophagus against the outline of the Cross, his hands crossed before him on the front of the tomb, above, two small angels hold their garments up to their faces in a gesture of mourning, gold ground
