Lot Essay

A pair of candle-stands with identical shafts but hexagonal tops were sold from the Collection of S. Eckman, Esq., at Sotheby's London, 6 October 1967, lot 166

The same unusual flattened scroll feet as on these three pairs of candle-stands (lots 93-95) appear also on a pair of giltwood 'Candle Stands' supplied by Thomas Chippendale to the 2nd Duke of Atholl at Blair Castle, Perthshire (illustrated in A. Coleridge, Chippendale Furniture, London, 1968, pl. 288)
