A PAIR OF POTSCHAPPEL (CARL THIEME) TWO-HANDLED VASES, COVERS AND STANDS, the covers modelled with two cherubs flanking a crowned armorial, the shield-shaped bodies applied at the shoulders with two seated maidens holding garlands flanked by meandering flowerin branches issuing from the forked branch-moulded handles, painted in the style of Watteau with vignettes of musicians, including Gilles and Scaramouche from the Commedia dell'Arte, in Arcadian landscapes, the lower bodies moulded with pink and turquoise gadroons and each applied in high relief with a cherub beside a crowned armorial, the spirally fluted stems applied with birds on flowering twigs, on footed stands (chips to flowers and to hand and foot of one putto), blue cross and T marks, circa 1880
