A MEISSEN FIGURE ALLEGORICAL OF SMELL from a set of the Senses, modelled as a young girl wearing a pale-blue hat, a flowered blue bodice, a striped and flowered skirt and a white and yellow apron filled with flowers, smelling a spray of flowers, seated on an orange cushion on a stool and leaning against a table supporting a basket of flowers and a scent-bottle, on a shaped-rectangular base edged with pink and gilt lozenges (one basket-handle lacking, chips to flowers and to trimmings of dress), blue crossed swords mark, incised E.5, painted number 36, circa 1880
