A PAIR OF GILT-METAL-MOUNTED SÈVRES-PATTERN YELLOW-GROUND SLENDER TAPERING OVIFORM VASES AND DOMED COVERS painted by Montagnès with figures within gilt cartouches of dense intricate foliate scrolls, one with a maiden, three cherubs and a dove among clouds, the other with a maiden seated on green drapery in a lush landscape, the reverses with trees in watery landscapes within gilt palm-frond cartouches, the flared necks and stems gilt with symmetrical scrolls, mounted in metal with putti finials seated on rocks playing the lute, two double-scroll handles with multiple acanthus-leaf terminals suspending laurel-wreaths, the lower bodies wreathed with leaves, the footed bases applied with elaborate scrolls and lion-masks and applied with medallions, (one with restoration to lower body, one cover cracked, wear to gilding), circa 1890
