A MINTON MAJOLICA TURQUOISE-GROUND VASE AND COVER, the finial modelled as a putto blowing the horn, the drum-shaped body moulded with a band of fret-pattern and applied in high relief with three seated maidens, their hair wreathed with vine-leaves, wearing fur-lined drapery and holding garlands of flower-entwined twigs and berried laurel falling in swags beneath their feet and below three goat-masks, the upper body moulded with vertical flutes, leaves and husks below a knopped rim moulded with flowerheads entwined with ribbon, the lower body glazed in dark blue, on a flared and fluted foot (putto's head and left arm re-stuck, chips to cover, base and one flower and leaf, one maiden with right toes lacking, another with right leg cracked), impressed mark, circa 1860, 25½in. (65cm.) high; a modern sprayed wood plinth; and a Minton majolica turquoise-ground pedestal, the shaped-cylindrical stem moulded with a band of overlapping leaves between claret, white and yellow knops moulded with flowers, ribbon and oak-leaves, on a circular footed base (shelf lacking and chip to rim), impressed marks and model number 891, date code for 1863
