Late Victorian carved walnut quarter chiming longcase clock, the imposing case with foliate carved plinth on bracket feet, the central panel carved with a satyr head flanked with griffins, the rectangular trunk door carved with shells, fantastical birds, a lion mask and a female head and flanked with caryatid angles, the dial signed Gaydon & Sons, Kingston-Upon-Thames on a shaped plaque to the foliate engraved centre with subsidiary seconds, silvered Arabic chapter ring, pierced blued hands, foliate engraved spandrels, levers by 3 for chime/silent and eight bells/four gongs, the massive four pillar movement with deadbeat escapement, chiming on eights bells via eight hammers or four gongs and hour strike on further gong, fine adjustment for crutch piece
