With its ribbon-entwined 'quatrefoil' rosette and foliate feet, it relates to a 'tabouret' stool published by R. Ackermann, Repository of Arts, Literature, Fashions etc., 1828, (illustrated P. Agius, Ackermann's Regency Furniture and Interiors, 1984, p. 184). This derived from a chair frame illustrated Percier & Fontaine, Receuil de Décorations Intérieures, 1801. Its luxuriant 'roman' foliage derives from that found on 'antique' marble candelabrum
