Lieutenant Colonel Charles Russell Deare (1749/50-1790) was commissioned into the Bengal Artillery in 1769. He was a fireworker 1769; Lieutenant 1771; Captain 1779, and served in the 2nd Mysore War 1781-1785; Major and Commander of the Brigade of Artillery 1786; Lieutenant-Colonel 1788; as Lieutenant Commander of Artillery, took part in the 3rd Mysore War and was killed by a canon ball.
