Unknown Vintage Port c. 1900
Damaged embossed wax capsules "PORT". Levels: two top, one upper, one just below mid and one low-shoulder (5)
Tasting note: Medium pale, fully mature but lively colour. High-toned bouquet, still sweet, some fruit despite age. Drying out on the palate but residual sweetness and fruit, almost certainly an old classic vintage and shipper, traditionally bottled by an English wine merchant. MB
Whilst further identification of these ports is impossible, a copy of E. Alexander and Son's "Abridged List", inherited along with the bottles by the original purchaser's daughter-in-Law lists a wide range of top-quality vintage port ranging from 1904 Dow and Graham (at 204/- per dozen) to Taylors 1935 (at 66/- per dozen).
