The location of this work is Trewoofe Farm near Birch's lodgings at Boleigh Farm, at the head of the Lamorna Valley and three miles west of Newlyn. Stanhope Alexander Forbes had persuaded Birch to spend the summer of 1895 studying in Paris at the Atelier Colarossi and this work, executed in the autumn of that year, shows the post-impressionist influences of this visit
