Lot Essay

Gore spent three or four months of every summer painting in the countryside until 1911; he visited Yorkshire in 1907, his mother's house in Hertingfordbury in 1908 and 1909 and Applehayes in Somerset in 1909 and 1910. Several landscapes from Somerset exist, including 'The Dell, Somerset 1910', 'The Orchard, Applehayes, Somerset 1910' and a smaller canvas also entitled 'Somerset Landscape 1910'. He produced another eight paintings on a later visit to Somerset in 1913
