Lot Essay

John Nash visited Bristol in 1925 and 1937. He greatly enjoyed the docks and paddlesteamers and these he wrote 'were the inspiration of many works'. 'Yarmouth Docks' is one of the few urban scenes Nash ever painted together with 'The Dredgers, Bristol Docks' 1925, in the collecton of the Swindon Art Gallery, 'Suspension Bridge, Bath', 1927, Victoria Art Gallery, Bath and 'The Viaduct', 1928, Leeds Art Gallery
