A LACQUERED PALANQUIN with gold hiramakie on a roironuri ground and gilt metal fittings incised with foliage, the exterior of the rectangular carrying case divided by horizontal bands with lacquered decoration of hishi mon amongst scrolling foliage, the fittings terminating the bands similarly decorated with hishi mon, two bosses under the eaves at either end also carrying the hishi mon, the interior with walls and roof papered, the coverings being coloured and part-gilt renderings of landscapes, the pole decorated as the carrying case with gold hiramakie on a roironuri ground (old wear, damage and restoration), 19th Century
