A FINELY CARVED IVORY OKIMONO depicting an itinerant Buddhist priest with Rakan on his back having his foot bitten by a crab, Rakan trying to catch the crab by his sceptre, a parody of Ashinaga and Tenaga, the base modelled as a stream among rocks, water bubbles inlaid in shell, the corners of the base supported by karano who sit among toys on a wood stand with shaped legs decorated in gold lacquer hiramakie with scrolling foliage (minor old damage), unsigned, late 19th Century
