Lot Essay

It's 'cupid-bow' shape and ormolu-mounted parquetry decoration with hollow-cornered panels in the Louis XV-style are inspired by the work of Charles Cressent (d.1768), while the cock-headed 'pelta' escutcheon is derived from the work of André-Charles Boulle (d.1732).
