Lot Essay

This antiquarian cabinet is composed of old marquetry panels from various sources. The theatric ruined courtyard scenes on the sides are inspired by engravings after designs by Hans Vredeman de Vres (d.1604) published in Variae Architecturae.., Antwerp c.1560. (S. Jervis, Printed Furniture Designs, 1974, fig. 131.)
