Lot Essay

Madeleine Berly was the daughter of Maurice de Vlaminck although she preferred to use her mother's maiden name. Much influenced by fauvism, Berly's paintings were exhibited by Paul Guillaume as early as 1914. Her fauve-inspired portraits of elegant women are amongst her most celebrated paintings.
