Lot Essay

The gun was completed circa 1932 and appears to have been relatively little used. It was given as a 21st birthday present to its present owner, and is the companion to gun No. 24985 which was built for Mr Barclay's brother John Francis in 1936 (sold in these rooms on 12 June 1991, lot 21). Their father's 20-bore gun, No. 16663, completed circa 1899 was similarly sold in these rooms on 6 November 1991, lot 116. All three guns are of superlative quality and are a fitting tribute to past generations of Purdey craftsmen
