1982 VINTAGE The 1982 vintage has always been a controversial one, and has caused much discussion and debate: few, however, doubt its quality. Characterised by enormously ripe fruit, huge depth of colour and extremely ripe tannins, the greatest cause of disagreement has been over whether a vintage which tasted so universally impressive so young, as many of the 1982's did, could continue to develop into the great long-lasting vintage which was being promised. School of thought was divided between those who felt that even a relatively youthful claret should be un-approachable, huge and astringent, and those, like Emile Peynaud, who believe that a great wine will always taste good. The debate will continue, but few would claim to have drunk a disappointing bottle of 1982 claret
