Lot Essay

Evidently an unsuccessful design for the commission won by Pietro Bracci. The pose of the Pope is the same in Bracci's tomb as the present drawing. Posi born in Siena, worked in Rome as the Chief Architect of the Vatican. He was known for his tomb designs, Posi worked in this capacity for the Caraffa and Chigi families in Sant' Andrea delle Fratte and in Santa Maria del Popolo respectively
