Lot Essay

Connected with the picture Nymphes et Amours, signed and dated 1752, formerly at Hendon Hall, that was sold in these Rooms, 1 June 1956, lot 28 and is now in a New York private collection. Another version of the picture probably from the artist's studio is in the Wallace Collection. A print of a female nude by Demarteau very close in pose to the present drawing was engraved after a drawing then in the collection of M. d'Azaincourt, P. Jean-Richard, L'Oeuvre gravé de François Boucher, Paris, 1978, no. 651, illustrated
