A drawing of similar technique and subject signed G.F. Blondel is in the Musée Magnin, Dijon, M. Roland-Michel, Le Dessin Français au XVIIIe siècle, Friburg, 1987, p. 144, fig. 159. Blondel visited Rome between 1756 and 1760, he was in Amsterdam in 1763 and in England from 1765 to 1774 exhibiting regularly at the Society of Artists and at the Free Society. In 1768, he published eight mezzotints after drawings he had made in Rome. The watermark suggests that the present drawing may date from his English years
