The attribution to Georgiana Hare Naylor and John Flaxman is made by analogy to the view of Lake Nemi, with an Idea for a Roman Villa, sold in these rooms on 10 July 1990, lot 81, repr., where a similar attribution was based on an inscription on a label on the back by Georgiana Maurice, Georgiana Hare Naylor's step-daughter. Georgiana, first wife of Francis Hare Naylor, was a partner of Flaxman while he was in Italy from 1787 to 1794, in particular commissioning the outline drawings illustrating the Iliad and the Odyssey.
