Lot Essay

The sitter is possibly Edward Madden of Dublin (1739-1829), eldest son of John Madden of Kitterman, Enniskerry Co. Wicklow, from his marriage with Anna Lee of Macclesfield. He married Elizabeth Forde of Corry, Leitrim, and their son Richard Robert Madden M.D. (1798-1887), was Colonial Secretary and Acting Governor of Western Australia 1842
