In a letter written fromo the Hotel Cassino on 11th September 1854 to Anne, Lear writes '... I stayed there (Grundelwald) on the 8th, and was immensely pleased with that wonderful valley. I drew the great glacier, a view which will give you a good idea of glaciers... Altogether, Grundelwald is a most astonishing valley'
