An 18th-Century lacquered brass universal equinoctial sundial
signed on the horizontal plate Ring à Berlin. The "broken" silvered hour ring engraved XI-XII-III, each hour subdivided into eight divisions with spring loaded pin-gnomon, the folding latitude arc engraved 90°-20° and folding plummet level, the four adjustable levelling screws with butterfly wing tops, the underside of the compass box engraved with the latitudes of thirty-six Continental cities and towns. The compass finely engraved with the cardinal points, the steel needle on pivot with cap and side lock - 4¾ins. (12.1cm.) square,in chamois leather lined carrying case with embossed leather outer covering and two brass hooks and eyes.
