A late 19th-Century lacquered brass compound binocular microscope, signed on the Y-shaped foot BAKER, 244 High Holborn, LONDON, with rack and pinion coarse and fine focusing, differential-screw extra fine adjustment, circular stage, sub-stage wheel condenser and plano-concave mirror, with various accessories in mahogany case - 20¾in. (52.7cm.) high, the door with engraved plaque inscribed: Presented to the Honorable the Commissioners of Inland Revenue to Mr. Cornelius Aherne as first prize for proficiency in practical & theoretical chemistry. Session 1881-2; and an extensive collection of amateur slides in mahogany case - 20¾in. (52.7cm.) wide.
