Jan Albert Sighterman was born in Groningen on 23 September 1692 and he died there on 15 January 1764. His daughter Christina Elizabeth married Anthony Adrian Falconer, 5th Earl of Kintore and 8th Baron Falconer. His son Jan Albert was born at Cassembara on 17 September 1733. He joined the Army in the service of Saxony; he died unmarried in 1750.

This picture was painted in 1745, when the father was 53 and the son 12.
