Lot Essay

The present picture shows the southern and eastern sides of the Castle, with the alterations made by James Wyatt between 1800 and 1813, and the Eastern Tower designed by the Rev. Sir John Thoroton in 1816. A watercolour by J.M.W. Turner R.A. of 1816 shows the same view from a similar position.
