The main figure on the recto probably represents, or alludes to, the Madonna in an Annunciation. On the verso, as well as the mock respectful (?) allusion to sir Joshua Reynolds, President of the Royal Academy until his death in 1792, who had encourage Fuseli to become a professional artist, there is what appears to be the name, written in the same formal hand, of William Hunter.

This may be William Hunter the anatomist (1718-83). A friend of George Stubbs, A.R.A., and a fellow of the Society of Antiquarians he formed a collection of anatomical and pathalogical material and also of coins, medals, manuscripts and books that formed the basis of the Hunterian Museum at Glasgow University. John Hunter (1728-93), the anatomist and surgeon, whose collection is now at the Royal College of Surgeons, was his younger brother
