This is a free copy of 'Il Sogno' or 'Dream of Human Life', engraved by Béatrizet after Michelangelo. There is a variant of the main figure on the back and another version, without the smaller figure, inscribed 'Derby. 14 Sept. 99' (S. 1175). Fuseli later used the main motif in the pen and wash drawing of Dalila visiting Samson in Prison in Gaza, an illustration to Milton's Samson Agonistes, 710 ff, dated by Schiff to c. 1800-5 (S. 1414)
