Dutrevil. le', rounded lock (cock retaining screw missing) retained by three screws, struck with a sun in splendour over a letter, and engraved 'Magasin Royal' and, on the tail 'Louis Carrier', walnut full stock (fore-end replaced), iron mounts including rounded trigger-guard and side-plate, escutcheon engraved with the French royal arms within palm branches, and wooden ramrod, circa 1700

M. Dutreville (or Dutreuil) is recorded by Neue Støckel as a gunmaker working in Paris in c.1680-90. Jean Louis Carrier (c.1654-1741) was an entrepreneur connected with the arms manufactory at St. Etienne, and was involved with others in the production of the French model 1717 musket
