A GERMAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLE with octagonal sighted barrel (back-sight missing) rifled with seven grooves, flat bevelled lock with fluted tail and swing-out safety-steel, internally retained cock, moulded figured walnut full stock, the butt (cracked and repaired) with cheek-piece carved with a foliated scroll, walnut patch-box cover carved with foliage at one end, iron mounts including pointed butt-plate and spurred trigger-guard (sling mount missing) each with fleur-de-lys finials, moulded horn fore-end cap, and horn-tipped ramrod, early 18th Century, probably by Johann Valentin Heibach
